How much is my car tax per year?

Enter your registration and the calculator shows the exact annual road tax (VED) for that specific vehicle. For cars registered after April 2017 the standard rate is £200 a year (£110 for six months), plus a £440 yearly supplement in years two to six if the list price was over £40,000 (£50,000 for electric cars). Cars registered between March 2001 and March 2017 are taxed by CO2 emissions band instead, from £20 to £790 a year, and motorcycles are taxed by engine size. Electric cars stopped being tax-free in April 2025. The calculator reads the vehicle's first registration date, fuel type and CO2 figure from DVLA data and applies the current DVLA V149 schedule (April 2026), showing both 12-month and 6-month prices so you know the true running cost before you buy.
